That first kiss tasted sweet,
like the aroma of lilacs,
which I craved every spring
to bring my world alive with joy.
Lilac kisses, I will ever remember,
for the time they lasted.
There have been other kisses over the years –
lavender, roses, peonies, and lilies.
The first time I inhaled the vanilla perfume of the
Ponderosa pine, I was reminded of a youthful romance.
There was a kiss once, like sage,
not the aromatic, flowery sage,
but the one with essence of turpentine.
I am pleased that was not my first kiss,
lest I would never desire a kiss again.
