Camping in places
where it’s difficult to get permission,
or to discern the property owner.
I pick my spot off the road at dusk.
Or a place hidden in the shadows,
just out of sight of windows.
I don’t use my headlamp
when I set up my tent.
White light can be seen
from a great distance as it gets darker.
I have had lots of practice, so I can set up
my tent in inky darkness if I must.
I don’t make a campfire or even
make the area look like a campsite.
Inside my tent, I keep quiet
and keep the lights off.
I just meditate or go to sleep.
I wake up before first light
and pack up right away
before I eat breakfast.
If I were to get caught, I would be very, VERY humble.
And respectful.
VERY respectful.
But I do not get caught.
Not in seventy-seven nights of stealth camping.
