The Colonel

At the coffee shop,
the old man tells me about his father,
who was a Colonel in Poland during the Second World War,
ordered to round up the Jews and the Gypsies for execution.

But he refused and was
subsequently ordered back to Germany
with six others who also disobeyed the order.

There was no trial.
The seven of them were summarily executed.
