She remembers that when she was a girl, the priest told her that he speaks to God regularly. Every day, in fact. Over the years, she met many people who claimed to have spoken to God, had conversations with God, or heard the voice of God, sometimes in quiet, serene moments, most often in their dreams or during their prayers. She always pretended to envy them.
The truth was, however, that she has been having conversations with God for as long as she can remember. They have had wonderful debates about morality, philosophy, faith, justice, sexuality, and the pros and cons of deciding on a particular career path or a particular boyfriend.
But she never told anyone about those conversations. Her conversations with God did not happen during serene moments, or even in her dreams. Her conversations took place with God only when the skies were angry.
It’s one thing to tell your friends you spoke with God during your prayers. But to tell them God speaks to you by tapping rain against your windowpane in Morse code, well, that’s just crazy.
