I am a water sign,
but I am not really a water person.
I like my feet planted on the ground.
But I like the shore,
where water meets earth,
where wind and tides push water
onto innocent land,
slowly changing its shape and composition.
I listen to the waves,
the gentle ones that lap onto the beach,
the fiery ones that crash onto rock.
I listen closely,
though I am an amateur eavesdropper,
learning the language of the waves,
the stories of the ponds and lakes and oceans.
Even the short life of a downpour
creates puddles with stories to tell.
Better stories even than Hollywood can narrate.
